Terms of Use

Last updated: 11 July 2026

These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of NeighboursLoop (neighboursloop.com) and related mobile apps and services. NeighboursLoop is a community platform that simply connects neighbours who want to share everyday items — we are not a party to, and take no responsibility for, what members list, say, or arrange between themselves. By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

1. About NeighboursLoop — a community platform

NeighboursLoop is a community-run platform that helps neighbours discover and share everyday household items locally. We provide the technology that lets members find each other and communicate; we are not a shop, a rental company, an agent, a broker, or an insurer.

We are not a party to any loan, sale, exchange, or other arrangement between members. Any agreement to lend, borrow, or hand over an item is made directly between the members involved, at their own discretion and risk. The service is operated for communities in Australia, and you must be at least 18 years old to use it.

2. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. You agree to provide accurate profile and contact information and to keep it up to date.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, applicable law, or community safety standards.

3. Sharing items responsibly

When you list an item, you represent that you have the right to lend it and that your listing is truthful about its condition, working order, and availability. You remain solely responsible for the item you lend and for how it is used.

When you borrow an item, you agree to use it carefully, return it on time and in the same condition (fair wear excepted), and communicate promptly with the owner. NeighboursLoop does not own, inspect, test, or guarantee any item, and does not warrant its quality, safety, legality, or fitness for any purpose.

4. Member listings, descriptions, and chat are not verified by us

All item titles, descriptions, photos, categories, prices, ratings, reviews, profile details, and messages on NeighboursLoop are created by members, not by us. We do not author, monitor, verify, endorse, or guarantee the accuracy of any information members share about their items or themselves, or anything members say to each other in chat or elsewhere on the platform.

You rely on member-provided information at your own risk. We are not responsible for information that is inaccurate, misleading, incomplete, offensive, or unlawful, or for any statements, promises, or conduct of other members. If you see content that breaches these terms, please report it in the app.

5. Always inspect and verify before handover

It is your responsibility to check an item before you rely on it. Before handing over an item (as a lender) or accepting one (as a borrower), you should inspect it in person and confirm its description, condition, cleanliness, safety, and working order for yourself. Do not assume an item is safe, functional, or as described just because it is listed on NeighboursLoop.

If an item is not as described or you have any doubt about its safety or condition, do not proceed with the exchange. NeighboursLoop cannot and does not verify item condition on your behalf.

6. Safety and in-person meetings

Meetings and handovers happen between members at their own risk. Get to know the other party before handing over or accepting an item. Use common sense: meet in public or familiar places where possible, tell someone where you are going, and do not share your exact home address publicly on the platform.

Do not list prohibited, illegal, dangerous, or recalled items. We may remove listings or accounts without notice where we reasonably believe there is a risk to people or property.

7. Loss, theft, damage, and disputes between members

Because arrangements are made directly between members, any loss, theft, damage, non-return, injury, or dispute arising from a shared item is a matter between the members involved. NeighboursLoop is not responsible for recovering items, compensating for loss or damage, or resolving disputes, and provides no insurance or guarantee of any kind.

If an item is stolen, damaged, not returned, or otherwise involved in a dispute, it is your responsibility to take appropriate action — for example contacting the other member, reporting the matter to the police, making an insurance claim, or pursuing a civil remedy. We may, at our discretion and where lawful, provide information to assist (see the section on law enforcement below), but we are under no obligation to intervene in member disputes.

8. Acceptable use

You must not harass, threaten, discriminate against, defraud, or mislead other members. You must not scrape the service, attempt unauthorised access, upload malware, or use NeighboursLoop for commercial resale, spam, or any illegal activity.

Friend connections and messaging should be used respectfully. We may review reported content and take action including warnings, suspension, or permanent removal.

9. Reporting, investigations, and cooperation with law enforcement

We take fraud, spam, theft, harassment, and other illegal activity seriously. Where we reasonably suspect such activity, or where we receive a lawful request from the police or another law enforcement or government authority, you agree that we may disclose any information we hold about the members involved — including account details, profile and contact information, location data, listings, ratings, messages, device and log data, and other records — to the Australian police and relevant authorities, on their request, to the extent permitted by law.

We may make such disclosures without notice to you where required, appropriate, or necessary to prevent or investigate suspected fraud, theft, or other unlawful conduct, or to protect the safety, rights, or property of members or the public. This is described further in our Privacy Policy.

10. Plus subscriptions

Optional NeighboursLoop Plus features (such as suburb-wide discovery) are billed through the payment provider shown at checkout (e.g. Stripe, Apple, or Google). Subscription fees, renewal, cancellation, and refunds are handled according to the plan you select and applicable consumer law.

Feature availability may change; we will not materially remove paid features you rely on without reasonable notice where required by law.

11. Your content and our licence

You retain ownership of photos, descriptions, and other content you upload. You grant NeighboursLoop a non-exclusive licence to host, display, and process that content solely to operate and promote the service.

You must not upload content that infringes others' intellectual property or privacy rights.

12. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and disclose personal information, including when we may share information with law enforcement. By using NeighboursLoop you also agree to that policy.

13. Disclaimers

The service is provided on an "as is" basis to the extent permitted by Australian law. We do not warrant uninterrupted or error-free operation. We are not liable for disputes, loss, theft, damage, or injury arising from arrangements between members, from the condition or use of any item, or from information members share, except where liability cannot be excluded by law.

14. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, NeighboursLoop's total liability to you for claims relating to the service is limited to the greater of (a) amounts you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) AUD $100.

Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We will post the revised version on neighboursloop.com/terms and update the "Last updated" date. Material changes may also be notified by email or in-app notice. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
