NeighboursLoop

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 11 July 2026

NeighboursLoop ("we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). NeighboursLoop is a community platform: much of the information on it — listings, descriptions, ratings, and messages — is provided by members, and we do not verify or endorse that member-provided content.

1. Information we collect

Account information: name, email address, phone number (if verified), profile photo, suburb and general location, and optional bio.

Item listings: titles, descriptions, photos, categories, prices, and availability.

Usage data: messages between connected members, friend requests, borrow activity, ratings and reviews, device/browser type, and log data such as IP address and timestamps.

Identifiers: an account identifier, device and installation identifiers, and a push-notification token so we can deliver notifications to your device.

Payment data: if you subscribe to Plus, payment is processed by the app store (Apple or Google). We receive subscription status and limited billing metadata, not your full card number.

Communications: emails or SMS we send for verification, notifications, or support.

2. Why we collect information

We use personal information to:
• create and secure your account;
• show your profile and listings to other members according to your privacy settings and plan;
• enable messaging, friend connections, and borrow coordination;
• verify phone numbers and prevent abuse;
• send service notifications you have not opted out of;
• improve safety, investigate reports, troubleshoot issues, and comply with law.

We do not sell your personal information.

3. Member-provided content

Listings, item descriptions, photos, prices, ratings, reviews, profile details, and chat messages are created by members, not by us. We do not verify, endorse, or guarantee this content, and we are not responsible for the accuracy or legality of information members share about their items, themselves, or others.

Information you choose to share in a public listing or with other members may be seen, saved, or repeated by them, outside our control. Please think carefully about what you share.

4. Location information

We store your suburb and a fuzzy map location for discovery features. Exact street addresses are not shown publicly on the map. Friends may see more precise location according to product settings.

You can update your address in profile settings. Location is used to help neighbours find relevant items and people nearby.

5. When we share information

With other members: your display name, photo, suburb, listings, ratings, and (when connected) messages and friendship status.

With service providers: trusted processors who help us run the platform — for example cloud hosting (Google Firebase, AWS), analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase), email (Resend), SMS verification (Twilio), maps (Google), and payments (Apple, Google). They may only use data as we instruct.

With sign-in providers you choose: if you sign in with Google, Apple, or Facebook, we exchange the information needed to authenticate you with that provider. We use Facebook only to sign you in, and we have disabled Facebook's advertising event logging and advertiser-ID collection, so it is not used to track you or serve ads.

For legal, safety, and law-enforcement reasons: as described in the next section.

Business transfers: if we merge or sell assets, information may transfer subject to this policy.

6. Disclosure to police and authorities

Where we reasonably suspect fraud, spam, theft, harassment, or other illegal activity, or where we receive a lawful request from the police or another law enforcement or government authority, we may disclose any information we hold about the members involved to the Australian police and relevant authorities, on their request, to the extent permitted by law.

The information we may disclose includes account details, profile and contact information, location data, listings, ratings, messages, device and log data, and other records associated with the relevant accounts. We may make such disclosures without notice to you where required, appropriate, or necessary to prevent or investigate suspected unlawful conduct, to comply with a court order or legal obligation, or to protect the safety, rights, or property of members or the public.

7. Storage and security

Data is stored using reputable cloud infrastructure. We apply access controls, encryption in transit (HTTPS), and administrative safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the data.

No online service is completely secure. Please use a strong password and report suspicious activity to hello@neighboursloop.com.

8. Retention

We keep your information while your account is active and as needed to provide the service, resolve disputes, enforce terms, and meet legal obligations. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must retain records by law or to assist a law-enforcement investigation.

9. Your rights and choices

You may access and update most profile information in the app. You can adjust email notification preferences in profile settings.

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you by contacting hello@neighboursloop.com. We will respond within a reasonable time as required by the APPs.

If you believe we have breached the APPs, you may complain to us first, and then to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).

10. Cookies and analytics

We use essential cookies and local storage for authentication and session management. We use Google Analytics for Firebase (Firebase Analytics) to understand how the service is used — this collects product-interaction (usage) data and device/installation identifiers linked to your account, and we use it only for our own analytics.

We do not use your information to track you across other companies' apps or websites, we do not display third-party advertising, and we do not share your personal information with advertising networks or data brokers.

You can control non-essential cookies through your browser settings where applicable.

11. Children

NeighboursLoop is not directed at children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Contact us if you believe a child has provided information and we will delete it.

12. Overseas disclosure

Some service providers may process data outside Australia (for example the United States). Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure recipients handle information in line with applicable privacy standards.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always at neighboursloop.com/privacy-policy with a revised "Last updated" date. Material changes may be communicated by email or in-app notice.
