How NeighboursLoop works
Every borrow on NeighboursLoop follows the same five steps, from the first request to the rating at the end. The whole cycle is tracked in the app, so both people always know what is out, with whom, and when it is due back.
How do I join NeighboursLoop?
Sign up with Google, Apple, Facebook, or an email address, then add a photo and a short bio, verify your phone number by SMS, and enter your address. It takes a couple of minutes.
Your address sets your suburb, which is what discovery is built on, and places you on the neighbourhood map. Your exact address is never shown to anyone who is not a friend — see Trust & safety for exactly how that works.
How do I list something to lend?
Take a few photos, give the item a title and short description, pick a category, say what condition it is in, and publish. On Plus, the app can write the whole listing for you from the photos alone.
Every listing is reviewed before it goes live, usually quickly, so a new item will not appear to your neighbours the instant you publish it. You can mark an item as unavailable, or as available from a future date, whenever you like.
How do I find something to borrow?
Your feed shows everything the people you are connected with have listed. You can search it by category or keyword, and browse the map to see who is nearby.
With NeighboursLoop Plus you can search every approved listing in your whole suburb rather than only your friends’, search within a radius from 100 m to 20 km, and look at what a neighbour has listed before you connect with them.
How do I ask to borrow an item?
Open the listing and send a borrow request, proposing when you would like to collect the item and when you will bring it back, with a short message. The request opens a conversation with the owner and appears inside it.
The owner can accept, decline, or propose different times, all inside that same conversation. Nothing is committed until they accept.
What happens while I have the item?
Once the owner accepts, the loan becomes active and the item is publicly marked as borrowed with its return date, so nobody else asks for it in the meantime. Both of you see the loan in your Borrows tab.
The app reminds you both as the return date approaches, and again if it passes. Check the item together at hand-over so you agree on its condition.
How does returning work?
Arrange the hand-back with the owner, return the item, and the loan is marked as returned. The item immediately becomes available for others to borrow again.
After the return, both of you can rate each other from one to five stars and leave a comment. Those ratings build the reputation that makes the next loan easier for both of you.
How do I connect with my neighbours?
Send a friend request from someone’s profile, or share your personal invite code as a link or a QR code for them to scan. Anyone who joins through your invite is connected to you automatically.
Friends see your exact location and everything you have listed. People who are not friends see only your suburb and a fuzzy map pin.
